On Sunday, the Redlegs and Rangers opened up the 2012 season in this year’s first edition of the “Backyard Battle”. Two members of the Springboro baseball coaching staff squared off against each other on the mound in the form of Kevin Campbell for the Redlegs and Shawn Schmitt for the Rangers. The Redlegs went into the draft looking for one thing in 2012, pitching. Unfortunately in years past that has been the strategy of many teams drafting in the top 5, so there was uncertainty if the Redlegs would be able to meet that need. Game 3 marked the end of the Redlegs 2011 season as they had
trouble cashing in with runners in scoring position all game
long. Bradley and Longacre each picked up 2 hits in the loss;
Bradley batted .412 in the playoffs. The only 2 RBI were
driven in by Brad Clark who also had 2 hits on the night, Brad
posted a .563 playoff batting average only being ousted by
Greg Lebouef who hit .571.

Game 2 featured just as much firepower from each team as the
Redlegs topped the Slammers in 12-9 comeback victory. Most of
the damage was done in the 5th inning when the Redlegs pushed
7 runs across, 2 driven in by Longacre who had 3 more RBI in
game 2. Brandon Howard launched his first home run of the
post season as he drove in 3 runs in the game. Robinson,

The Redlegs lost in Game 3 in a 3 game set with the South
Dayton Slammers in the 2nd round of this years playoffs. Game
1 was an offensive battle, but in the end the Slammers edged
out the Redlegs 15-11.
The Redlegs offense was led by Brandon Longacre and Steve
Benthal as each player picked up a couple of RBI's in the
game. Jacob Robinson and Brad Clark each had 3 hits in the
loss.

The Redlegs and Bats met for Game 3 at Kettering Fields to decide the series. Eric Williams got the ball for the Redlegs and Gary Robinson was sent to the hill by the Bats to determine who would move on.

The Redlegs were hoping to get a little revenge on the Ohio Mariners after taking a 9-2 loss just over a week before last Thursday night’s rematch. But the Mariners had other ideas, piling up 20 runs and run ruling the Redlegs after 5 innings in a 20-4 blowout. Brad Clark will be starting for the Buckeye Division in the 2011 All Star Game. Brad has turned in quite a season so far offensively, batting .444 with a homerun and is tied for the team lead in RBI with 15. The weather held out just long enough for the Redlegs and Mariners to hook up for a 9 inning affair on Sunday morning. Originally scheduled to take place at Carleton Davidson Stadium in Springfield, the game had to be moved at the last minute to Kettering Fields due to wet field conditions.

The Redlegs were able to get two big wins last Sunday, besting the Miami Valley Thunder in both games of a double header. The Redlegs offense exploded for 35 runs on the day, which was exactly how many runs they scored through their previous 8 games.

The Redlegs and Slammers squared off in a double header out at Preble Shawnee High School on Sunday and the Slammers prevailed in a lopsided victory in game 1. The Slammers pounded out 16 runs as they cruised to an easy 16-0 victory by run rule. The only bright spot in the game for the Redlegs was Brad Clark going 2-2 at the plate with a double. Slammers starter Jeff Beall pitched a complete game, 6 innings, and punched out 8 Redleg batters in the victory.
Game 2 was a completely different story. The Redleg offense woke up and put 19 runs on the board. Unfortunately the Slammers were able to score 4 more and win the game at an astounding 23-19 final score.

The Redlegs lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday night in a back and forth contest against the Dayton Tigers. The Tigers would eventually outlast the Redlegs and win 8-7. On a positive note, this win gave the Tigers their first franchise victory after starting the season 0-10.

The Redlegs went into Tuesday night’s game against the Beavercreek Sox losing a franchise worst 5 straight games. The Sox meanwhile were riding a 5 game winning streak, coming off of a big win over the Miami Valley Fusion on Sunday. During the Redlegs 5 game slide the main concern has been the offense, as the club only produced 10 runs over the span. The Redlegs took on the newly founded Miami Valley Fusion on Sunday in game 2 of a split double header. In game 1, The Fusion took on the Miami Valley Thunder and pounded out 16 runs in a lopsided victory. The Redlegs and Tigers were only able to get to the bottom of the 4th inning before the game was put on hold, and eventually postponed, due to rain. The Redlegs currently hold a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game will be picked up on Sunday June 19th at Preble Shawnee High School. The Redlegs hope to continue their hot hand in the draft a year after taking two solid contributors in Matt Mattice and Eric Williams in 2010. With the 7th pick in the first round, the Redlegs selected Kyle Slone. Kyle was a middle infielder for Troy Christian High School. After Kyle's performance at the pre-draft tryout and in practice, the Redlegs believe he is a good enough athlete to play anywhere on the field and hope he will be able to provide some speed on the base paths as well.

Redlegs Coach Jacob Robinson takes the MVABL Manager of the Year award leading the expansion team to a 16-12 record and a 4th seed in the playoffs.
He also was named 1st Team All-MVABL as an outfielder finishing the year hitting .404 with 2 HR and 24 RBI.
The Camden Redlegs ended their season by getting knocked off in the first round of the MVABL playoffs by the Shockers. The Camden Redlegs had their first ever All-Star selections in 2010. Rookie Taylor Guntle was named as the Redlegs "automatic starter" for the Buckeye Division team. Guntle is hitting .403 with a HR and 13 RBI at the plate and is 5-0 with a 4.88 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 51 plus innings on the mound. Dayton Astros squad at Preble Shawnee on Sunday. The
Redlegs let game 1 get away as the Astros scored late to win
it by a final score of 12-10.

lost in a high scoring game by a final tally of 15 to 11.

The Dayton Rangers defeated the Camden Redlegs Sunday by a final score of 12-3. While the Redlegs had only 3 less hits then the Rangers, the Rangers made their hits count while the Redlegs left 10 men on base throughout the game.

The Redlegs dropped their second straight on Sunday as they couldn't keep the Thunder off the scoreboard, despite scoring 10 runs of their own. The Thunder scored 19 runs over 7 innings, highlighted by homeruns from David Moss and Drew Bost, Drew York also contributed 4RBI.

The Redlegs fell to the Kettering Royals by a final score of 4 to 3 in 10 innings on Saturday afternoon. The game turned out to be a pitcher’s duel between Royals starter Kevin Reynolds and lefty Brian Kuhbander for the Redlegs. Despite pitching well, Kuhbander took the loss going 9 innings, striking out 11 and giving up only 2 earned runs.

The Redlegs game for today against the Dragons has been cancelled due to poor field conditions. The game will be re-scheduled to a date later this season.
Next Saturday the team will travel east to Columbus to take on the North Columbus Bears. The game will be played at Beechcroft Highschool on the north side of Columbus. Game time will be 1:00pm. Players should plan to arrive no later than noon to prepare for the game.
Miamivalleybaseball.com reports that Redlegs rookie Taylor Guntle picked up Week 3's honor for Player of the Week.
Taylor went 3-for-5 on the day with a home run, 4 runs scored, 2 RBIs, 2 walks, and a stolen base. He also picked up the win in relief against the defending champion Rangers.

The Camden Redlegs picked up their first franchise win Sunday night at Action
Sports Complex by topping the Miami Valley Cardinals 16-13. In the 3 hour and 50
minute marathon, 30 combined walks were issued on the night.

We will play the Dayton Rangers in a scrimmage game Thursday night at Athletes in Action in Xenia. The game will begin at 7:30pm so try and be there by 7:00 to get warmed up. Directions to the complex can be found here. Also, to cover the field rental please bring $5.
Our next practice is Sunday the 28th from 1:00 to 2:00 at Extra Innings in Miamisburg. When we are done at extra innings the plan is to head over to either Yankee Park or Preble Shawne depending on Yankee's field availability. This is the final tune up before our scrimmage on Saturday April 3rd, and then opening day on the 11th. Everyone needs to be at this practice!
Our next practice will be Sunday March 21st at 10:00am at Yankee Park. We will practice at Yankee until 12:30 and then head over to Extra Innings for our 1:00 practice there. We have two tunnels, so pitchers come prepared to throw in one cage while we take batting practice in the other.
In the 2010 MVABL draft the expansion Redlegs selected Matt Mattice with their first
round draft choice, 9th overall. Mattice has experience playing in the middle infield
as well as all three outfield positions, fitting right into the Redlegs team
philosophy of having versatile players.

The Camden Redlegs have announced that they will be an expansion team in the MVABL for the 2010 season. Former Dayton Ranger Jake Robinson has agreed to coach the Redlegs and has already signed on former high school and Ranger teammates Brandon Howard and Jared Bradley. The Redlegs have also reached an agreement with former Rangers third baseman Brad Clark. Clark was the 2006 Rangers Rookie of the Year and won a gold glove in 2007.
